NEW Blog Post: My Journey to Abstraction

Painting Plein Air
I'm an East Coast transplant who loves the ocean. The undulating Flint Hills of Kansas remind me of the sea. Some Sundays, my husband, Charlie and I head west on I-70 to parts unknown. We take a huge thermos of coffee, hunks of cheese and bread and apples, and search for perfect places to paint. I scout deep, creviced shadows, rolling hills and vast skies. One of the greatest challenges of Plein Air painting is that everything is always changing all the time. In these two paintings - on exhibit now at 80 Santa Fe Gallery - I've explored the transient feelings of thunder clouds rolling in and hills burnishing gold.
Plein Air
NOW ON EXHIBIT:
Storm Clouds Rolling Across the Hills
acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24"
I painted 'Storm Clouds Rolling Across the Hills' somewhere along the Flint Hills Scenic Byway (177) south of Manhattan, KS, as a storm began rolling in.
NOW ON EXHIBIT:
Kansas Prairie
acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24"
I painted 'Kansas Prairie' about 30 miles south of Alma, KS, as Charlie and I were meandering along country roads south of I-70, west into the Flint Hills.
It's the Little Things
ON EXHIBIT THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2024:

Lamingtons Down Under, watercolor on paper, 9" x 12" framed to 12" x 15"
Paintings inspired by little life moments: Do you like breakfast for dinner? Adding a cosmo? Traveling to Australia...or, in the meantime...baking these little sweet cakes from down under?
